BIG IS BEAUTIFUL

A Giant's Garden will form part of the sensory area that is planned outside the Walled Garden's west wall. The idea is to make people feel ‘small’ by choosing large plants, as might be the case in a ‘real’ giant’s garden.

To make this happen, we need plants that are tall, large leafed and big flowered. Likewise, to complete the picture, complementary sculptures, such as massive insects.

Last year, locals were amazingly generous with their offers of unwanted plants or autumn thinnings. Can you help this year?
Any plant that appeals to the senses (colour, touch, scent, sound etc) would be gratefully received and especially welcome will be anything ‘big’ for the Giant Garden.

If anything you have is too big for you to deliver, we can collect it.
So please call Roger Thompson 01827 383592 if you think you
can help.

Meanwhile, pupils from local schools will play a part in the design of   the Sensory Garden, as will Michael, a 19-year-old who is severely     autistic.

It was from a conversation that Dick Cowley, one of the driving        forces behind the Elford Hall Garden Project, had with Michael's        parents, Colin and Carol, that sparked the idea of a sensory  garden.

Dick explained: "Colin told me they have spent hours going  around  the shops to keep Michael interested. It was from conversation with  Colin and another friend Paul, who also has an autistic son, that the  idea of a sensory garden was raised. The whole garden will  be ideally suited for challenged individuals."
